Seven of Cups
The Seven of Cups represents an abundance of options and the lure of fantasy, daydreaming, and indecision. It warns that too much imagination or worry can paralyze decision-making and lead to temptation or illusion. The card asks you to examine which dreams are realistic and which are illusory, urging grounded choice over endless speculation. Its imagery of seven vessels containing promises and dangers emphasizes that possibilities can be both attractive and deceptive, and you cannot know what they hold until you choose. The guidance is to balance dreaming with decisive action.

Meaning
The 7 of Cups appears when an abundance of options are available to us, but we may be so enraptured with the possibilities that we have a hard time choosing. In this card, we can have a tendency to get caught up in daydreaming and fantasizing, and also in the what-if's and worst case scenarios. In short, the 7 of Cups can be a wonderful experience of many attractive possibilities, but it can just as easily be a paralyzing trap of indecision and second-guessing.
Choices and Reality
When this card appears in a reading, it asks us to be real with ourselves about our dreams and how much they may be intertwined with illusion. Are we indulging in delusions of grandeur? Are we spinning nightmare scenarios of what could go wrong? Are we perpetually getting distracted by another project, another possibility, another dream? Dreaming is vital, but so is decision. In this card, we need to choose a damn cup. For all our conjecture and fantasy, it's impossible to know what the cup truly holds until we choose it.
Imagery
Our card shows a display case with seven vessels, each of which holds a different fantasy or nightmare. A ship for travel and adventure, a house for putting down roots, a city skyline for a fast-paced professional life, an unlit scroll for a mysterious future not yet written. Potential dangers lurk in others: a spider trapped beneath a glass, an octopus tentacle snaking toward a fishbowl. If we're anyone in this card, we're the fish, surprised, curious, and wary, never sure exactly what's coming.

An open doorway looks out to a starlit night with a large moon and a winding path leading over rolling hills. In the foreground, eight cups, bowls and pitchers are arranged on the floor, some containing liquid and one showing a small spill. Thin teardrop-shaped droplets hang in the air above several vessels and cast long shadows across the floorboards.
