The Tale of the Hollow Tree

Once, a rich man riding through the forest saw the tallest and most magnificent tree he had ever seen. Giving himself the right to possess whatever pleased him, he declared this tree his own. Not being fully satisfied with nature's creation, he ordered the tree to be hollowed out from within and turned into a bizarre tower. His arrogance and ignorance prevented him from listening to the carpenters' warnings that the treetop was too thin to bear the weight. Fearing the loss of their jobs, the carpenters obeyed the cruel orders, though it wounded their hearts. At first, the rich man and his wealthy friends admired the unusual sight of the tower against the forest backdrop, but soon they lost interest and abandoned it. Over time, the tree dying from within split apart and the tower collapsed. Around the roots of this tree formed a dead zone that no living soul approaches, except for a flock of rooks that fly in circles in the twilight heights, harshly crying out their malice and sorrow.
