Card 13

Death

Brief Description

The Death card represents the natural cycle of endings and new beginnings, like Persephone's journey to the underworld and back. It signifies the necessity of releasing what no longer serves us - the regrets and heavy baggage of the past that we drag behind us. This card reminds us that periods of silence and transformation are temporary, and that we must consciously choose to let die what needs to die in order to make space for new life and experiences. The cycle of death and rebirth is inevitable and constant, offering us the opportunity for renewal and growth.

The Cycle of Death and Rebirth

Persephone, consciously stepping into the underworld to Hades, does not remain there forever, and after a period of silence and quietude, new life is reborn again. And so it goes each time in a circle, unchangingly.

Release from the Past

The time of regrets, the heaviness of the past that drags behind us like a sack of bones, is not permanent if we don't get stuck in it. At some point, the time will come to say 'die' to what must die, and give ourselves a chance for new life and new experience.

Visual Description

A woman in a long black dress and a dark cloak patterned with stars, feathers, and skeletal motifs lifts an antlered animal skull over her head. Her long hair frames a solemn face and a small bone pendant rests at her throat. Wispy clouds and streaking stars fill the sky behind her, and two pale hands reach up from the lower corners toward a banner that reads "DEATH." The Roman numeral XIII appears at the top of the card.
