Meaning
In the 2s, each of the elements gets doubled up, i.e. it gets to react to a similar impulse. With two material states the result is change. You move from one state to the other, from young to old, from rich to poor, from cold to warm. Nothing in the material worlds ever stays stable while it's alive and change is inevitable for survival.
Meaning (continued)
The meaning of the card points to the power of opposites, yin-yang, polarization and opposing forces, but also to the eternal cycle where one state gets transmuted into the other. The card urges us to realize that everything has two sides and to abandon one-sided standpoints and outlooks and is best approached with a certain amount of flexibility and an easy-going attitude.
Exploring the Card
The card depicts an imaginary bit of marble flooring at Hogwarts that shows a mosaic of the two most opposite houses - Gryffindor and Slytherin. Still, in the books we have two members of those houses who did a complete about-face: Wormtail, who proved more treacherous than any snake, and Snape, who proved braver than any of Godric's lions. The wavy mosaic lines surrounding the two medallions symbolize the flow of change and transmutation.
Visual Description
A vertical composition of two large, interlocking circular stone rings forms a figure-eight across the card, each ring edged with a checkerboard mosaic. In the upper central roundel a rampant lion silhouette is visible, while the lower roundel contains a coiled snake against a dark disk. Flowing, calligraphic ribbons and ornamental scrollwork weave around the rings, and a small star-like disk appears near the top border. Printed at the bottom is the text "2 Change" and the whole image sits on a dark frame.
