Card 19

The Sun

Brief Description

The Sun is the quintessential symbol of life, bringing warmth, energy, growth, and illumination and encouraging us to share our inner light with the world. It represents success, brilliance, creative blossoming, happiness, good health, and abundance, often signaling joyful outcomes such as children or a joyful marriage. Reversed, it suggests that contentment or happiness is incomplete, priorities (especially regarding children) may need attention, or only a measure of success has been achieved. Magickally, the Sun purifies, protects, heals, lifts mood, and amplifies other spells, especially during the summer months.

Description

Providing plants with energy and animals with warmth and light, the sun enables us to grow and thrive. As a representation of that heavenly body, the Sun card is the quintessential symbol of life. Where the Moon's light is soft and subtle, the Sun's glow is glaring and undeniable. While the Moon represents the more hidden aspects of the human heart and mind, the Sun symbolizes the light within us that we choose to freely share with the world. It is success, brilliance, and illumination. It is warmth, energy, growth, and creation. Just as life on earth would cease without the sun, so too does the human heart wither from too much time in the shadows. The Sun reminds us that success doesn't have a number, and that true glory and satisfaction come only by letting the light within you shine brightly for all to see.

Visual Description

A huge, brilliant sun dominates the sky, sending straight and wavy golden rays across the scene. A woman in a flowing orange dress sits at a spinning wheel on a grassy shoreline, holding spun thread while a baby with a small sun crown sits on her lap and reaches up. Another toddler sits nearby on the grass playing with a ball of yarn; sunflowers and small wildflowers grow around them and a sailboat is visible on the water. At the bottom a decorative banner bears the text "19 • SUN".
