Card 11

Justice

Brief Description

This Justice card represents harsh, immediate karmic balance rather than gentle fairness. It embodies swift, uncompromising judgment that restores equilibrium through destruction when necessary. The card warns of radical actions driven by betrayal or injustice, suggesting that balance will be restored, but through potentially severe means. Legal matters and relationship imbalances are highlighted, with the promise that justice will come swiftly and decisively.

Symbolism

Initially, we notice how similar the 10th and 11th arcana are, as here again we have 'Alpha' and 'Omega' representing beginning and end, like balance and its restoration. Justice here appears as classical death. BUT! In this deck, justice is maximally harsh, as indicated by the scythe at the ready and the scales. She will judge according to all laws, seeing where you will be drawn. Again, we trace the black garment, as in the previous card. Here karma will catch up completely. She literally says 'You asked for something, you received it, there's nothing to be sad about.' Here the theme of revenge sounds even stronger. The flowers here again point not to some imagined justice that will manifest someday through karma and such, but one that will manifest as quickly and harshly as possible. The monarch butterfly - again we spoke of it in the Fool arcana. The wall of skulls shows a symbol of protection, an unshakeable wall, which can also signify connection with ancestry. Red roses are a controversial element in this card - on one hand they reflect passion and sharpness, on the other suffering and torment. A reference to the Mother of God, showing us that all love from above comes through suffering, and suffering through love - such is God's design for restoring worldly balance.

Card's Message

Justice thirsts for a fair resolution to the matter; already now something unjust is happening in the querent's life. The person is ready for radical actions; in extreme form this can manifest as thirst for revenge, resentment, desire to restore justice, betrayals, treachery, cruelty. Balance in relationships is definitely disrupted. Justice will be restored, and in the harshest way possible. The arcana also points to legal proceedings - justice will come, but not necessarily in the questioner's favor. Essentially, it speaks of balance through destruction.

Advice

The advice from this card is to apply all your efforts to creating your future. You already have sufficient knowledge and skills that you acquired earlier.

Visual Description

A skeletal, hooded figure stands front and center before a backdrop made of stacked skulls and climbing roses. The figure bears a long curved scythe across its shoulders and holds a set of scales suspended from one hand. Dense green foliage and blooming flowers fill the foreground, and a few butterflies hover near the pans of the scales. The card border shows the Roman numerals XI and the title JUSTICE at the bottom.
