Symbolism

Temperance in our deck is completely opposite to the classic interpretation. She is not an angel; she stands on earth with one foot in water—in emotions. She has no wings, though at first glance one might think she does. But this is a shawl, a veil extending behind her, signifying her 'ordinariness.' The colors of her skirt are red—like passion—and black, as the moment of beginning to cultivate quality, while green serves as the connector of opposites. She wears traditional festive attire, with a painted skull and flower in her head, showing her passionate nature and festive atmosphere. But the flower is not so simple either; it's like a hole in her head, as if she remains brainless through her celebration. And her facial expression? She is indeed pouring something 'entertaining'—tequila or something else—we will never know. The cacti show that she is not soft and gentle, but hard and prickly, even if soft inside. This also represents the ability to accumulate, store, endure, and synthesize everything necessary for growth. She also guards her temple this way, both material and internal. The temple is a ziggurat, representing the synthesis of upper and lower worlds. The crack in the cup shows that our emotional sphere is malfunctioning and leaking energy in the form of a puddle. The symbol under her feet, like the High Priestess, is the vesica piscis—two circles, the beginning of creation, showing the process of creation here. She demonstrates that it's necessary to change oneself internally, starting with the psycho-emotional body. The butterflies here are also unusual; this is a brimstone butterfly, which lives longer than others. To energetically endure its life path, it periodically 'sleeps,' entering diapause. This is also connected to the idea of temperance—to stop, give time, duration.

Card's Message

A person in pause, trying to gather and understand something within themselves. If it appears in relationships—long relationships, through the idea of synthesis and its duration; relationships will be very emotional, but they will be one whole. In work—stagnation, and in money—leakage.

The advice from this card is: Bring your life and thoughts into equilibrium, balance, but do this carefully. This will allow you to restore stability and shake up what has become rigid.

Visual Description

A winged skeletal figure with a painted skull face and a red flower in its hair pours liquid between two ornate golden cups. The figure wears a long black cloak with bold red and green chevrons and stands before a sunlit sky with radiating rays and a stepped pyramid in the background. A small pool of water gathers at the figure's feet amid rocks, vines, yellow flowers and scattered butterflies. Dark wings, skeletal arms and the ornate chalices dominate the central composition, creating a ritual, ritualistic tableau.
