Imagery
A field of golden grain is tended to by two siblings as they work in the warm sunlight. An ancestral well provides clean water for the pair to share. The eldest sibling generously pours water into his sister's vessel. A collection of other vessels awaits to be filled on behalf of family and the elderly. A bond is formed through participation in this ancient tradition, which consists of visiting the well, and it will continue for ages to come.
Symbolism
In the Six of Cups, the wishing-well was hand sculpted, using elements from reclaimed wood, foam, and dried moss. While studying in Perugia, Italy, I was exposed to the Etruscan well, which has been flowing since 300 BC. Likened to a portal into time, the symbol of an ancient well continues to serve nostalgic visitors, bubbling over with memories of the past.
