When the Magician appears, it means we must resort to our creative energy to gain control over a situation or create a new one, to conceal or reveal what we desire. He tells us that we now possess absolute power to change the course of things according to our Will. This could be a new enterprise or desire whose fulfillment we dream of. We must direct our intentions in a positive direction and become completely convinced that all our desires are achievable, and with devotion to the goal, creative ingenuity and utmost persistence, do everything to turn our dream into reality. Like the Magician, we must use all our inherent talents and abilities to merge with that flowing substance that transforms activity into reality.

We must explore a known or hidden situation with exceptional focus on achieving our goal. The Magician reminds us that all creative forces will be at our disposal if we boldly assert our rights and act thoughtfully and deliberately. The Magician's art lies in genius, presenting us with a unique creative spirit that we can use to shape the world according to our desires. In the card's image, we see the Magician commanding four objects symbolizing the elements. His brilliantly shining scepter contains the active power of Will and spiritual energy, while in his other hand he holds the blood-filled Grail—a symbol of the unconscious, a vessel in which he mixes fire and water. Then he pours (directs) the blood of life into the Tarot wheel—the Sphere of the Zodiac—which is symbolized by the large chalice. He sows the fiery seed of his desire in the realm of subtle, unformed spiritual matter. The Magician combines and balances this alchemy to fulfill his Will to help himself or others. The candle represents both the primordial spirit and the unification of forces, binding the elements together according to his design. As the archetype of the active masculine principle, the Magician is a conductor of higher dynamic purposes. He is the Cosmic Father, whose energy is spiritual willpower; his power belongs more to the sphere of spirit than the Emperor, who reflects more earthly willpower. Our Magician is not afraid to act. He believes in his abilities and knows what and why he intends to achieve. The Magician carries out his activity with unwavering purposefulness and directness because he recognizes the Divine source of his powers. If the Fool represents the seed just emerging from non-being and still lacking purpose, since it embodies only pure potential, the Magician ignites this seed. He recognizes the dark matter surrounding him and uses his skills to form and condense energies, thereby allowing the Eternal to reveal itself at a specific time and in a specific place.
Shadow
The shadow side of the Magician may manifest in lack of willpower, defeatist attitudes, or unwillingness to use one's powers in situations that require them. Perhaps we are not applying our skills and talents at the peak of our abilities, or we need to acquire new gifts to resolve the situation we are asking about. We may be overwhelmed by feelings of helplessness or lack faith in ourselves and energy. Once we recognize these obstacles, we can begin reforming our reality. Another shadow reflected by this card may warn us that we are directing our Will at a person or situation when in fact the best way out for us is to take a waiting position or sacrifice ourselves. The position of other cards in the spread can help us understand what this alternative path should be. Perhaps someone is imposing their Will on us, and the cards advise us to neutralize this influence with our own creative magical powers.
