4 Sphinx (Spirit)

The sphinx is a mythical creature most commonly depicted as having the head of a human, the body of a lion, and the wings of a bird (often a falcon). It guarded the pyramids, which held the tombs of many great pharaohs, as well as the entrance to the Greek city of Thebes, where the sphinx was famously said to ask travelers to answer a riddle before allowing them to pass. It symbolizes the seeking of answers, both metaphysical and mundane, and the power of knowledge.

If you are seeking answers to important questions, the sphinx may suggest that you need to look deeper or explore more widely. Don’t assume the easy, most obvious answer is the right one, but have faith in your ability to find the truth, no matter what it is. Never stop learning and growing because knowledge—both of self and the greater world—is power.
