The Grail is a symbol of immortality, spiritual purity, something ideal. The theme of the Grail enters the cycle of legends about King Arthur as the quest for the cup of highest sanctity. It was placed at the center of the mystical Round Table in Arthur's palace - Camelot.

Appearing as a vision, the Grail becomes the object of quest and aspiration for wandering knights. Only three of the knights, embodying the highest chivalric virtues - respectively loyalty, chastity, and holiness - were deemed worthy to partake from the cup.

The holy relic can reveal itself only to people who have reached the highest spiritual development. Only one who is called by the Grail itself is capable of reaching the place of its concealment. The loss of the cup was interpreted as the loss of the paradisiacal state, the loss of inner stability, the sacred center.

The quest for the Grail symbolizes the eternal search for truth. In the Christian tradition, we also encounter this divine vessel. Joseph of Arimathea brought the cup to the place of Christ's crucifixion and collected in it the blood from the wounds of the dying Jesus.

The lunar crescent, included in the symbolism of the cross, was often interpreted as the Grail cup. The Grail cup is a vessel of pure, divine energies. One can receive it only by completely purifying the soul and spirit.
