Card 11

Justice

Brief Description

Justice reflects the subjective nature of victory and the role perception plays in determining winners and losers. It suggests that balance may be inherent and that opposing players define each other, making true victory a matter of feeling rather than objective tally. The card warns against a win-at-all-costs mentality that overlooks compromise and mutual benefit. Pursuing justice through imbalance creates an endless conflict that leaves no one truly victorious.

Ally

How do we know who wins the game? Is it the player with the most coins at the end, or is it the one who has baggage weighing them down? Is it the one who is favored, or the one that has been forgotten? Both perspectives could be correct. Each one could be considered winners. Winning is a weird and wonderful thing. It's more of a feeling and more of a knowing. It's more how you feel about the end result. The scales of Justice are the scales of perception. Whether or not you think they're tipped in your favor is entirely up to how you perceive the scales. Perhaps this is exactly how Justice is meant to be. Maybe there are no winners and there are no losers. Maybe everything is balanced in some cosmic order. Perhaps the player in you needs the player in your opponent. Without them, there would be no way of knowing if you have won or if you have lost.

Challenger

It is easy to think that it is only you that will benefit from an end result. When we go toe to toe with an adversary, we often forget that there could be a middle ground, or a solution, that could benefit all involved. Instead, winning at all costs becomes our only objective. Trying to tip the scales of Justice to your favor, with this line of thinking, will not only not bring you the resolution you want, it won't even make the fight seem justified. Instead, it will create a vortex of energy that will require you to keep being a player in a game that will never end, and one in which no one ever walks away truly victorious.

Visual Description

A tall gilded balance scale dominates the center against a star-speckled teal background. Each arm holds a round golden pan; two small red-jester figures occupy the pans while a comet-like golden disc floats between them. The crosspiece of the scale is topped with a circular face, and a standing jester on the left points upward toward the apparatus. A white dog sits at the base and a red banner at the bottom reads "XI * JUSTICE".
