Solitude

Madness takes form as a woman sits by the edge of a pond with mirror-clear water, holding two identical swords, blindfolded. Branches of trees, bending like long fingers, greedily reach out to her; creatures of the twilight appear from all sides. Two shadows take the form of self-critique demons. One manifests as a person obsessed with others' opinions. A fourth shadow is a cat, fearing its own instincts. It represents the conflict between our desires and societal morality.

Duality of Mind

The dual mind believes in the separation of 'I' and the world. Duality is reflected in the woman's reflection, the symmetry of the swords in her hands, and her posture. Gazing at the reflection in the pond, we see that, in reality, the woman is alone. The shadows are figments of her imagination, monsters and fears that reside within her head. She distorts reality to align it with her beliefs, hiding her true 'self' under the veil of fear and fantasy. Notably, no trees are reflected in the pond; even the Dark Forest exists only within the mind.

Insight

The Two of Swords signifies voluntary solitude in one’s inner mental sanctuary, understanding of true feelings. It advises casting aside distractions - chatter, external energy, and influences - to achieve inner peace.

Meaning

Solitude and reflection. Symmetry of ideas and thoughts. Strive to understand what you truly feel, think, and how you react to external circumstances. Choose your words carefully. The ability to recognize old habits and patterns. A new path, even if the strategy is not yet clear. Silence of the mind.

Shadow

How far are you willing to go to protect yourself? It is better to confront problems than retreat inward, especially if prone to self-isolation. Do not torment yourself. It benefits no one, especially not yourself. Allow others to help you and accept help when offered.
