Deck Of Luminaries Tarot
The Deck of Luminaries Tarot was created by Alex Lumain of LLLUMAIN Studio, a creative studio founded in 2022 by Chris and Alex Lumain in Los Angeles, California. The studio was established with the goal of designing and producing interesting creative works to share with the world. The deck has gone through at least two editions: the 1st Edition features a limited edition purple card back colorway, while the 2nd Edition introduced an upgraded sturdy magnetic lid box, several redrawn card illustrations, and a limited edition blue card back colorway. A 200+ page full-color guidebook was also produced, detailing tarot spreads, card meanings, and the stories of every character in the deck's world.
Official Website →Art Style & Visual Character
All artwork is original by Alex Lumain, featuring a contemporary, modern aesthetic that sets it apart from traditional tarot illustration. The art style is polished and distinctive, drawing praise as "one of the few modern decks" that resonates with collectors who typically prefer classic imagery. Cards are printed on 310gsm cardstock with a matching tuckbox, and each edition includes a limited edition Major Arcana Artist's Card (XXII). The visual world is cohesive and character-driven, with a richly developed universe of luminous figures and scenes.
Core Concept & Symbolism
The deck builds an original mythology around the concept of "luminaries" — radiant, archetypal beings that inhabit a fully realized fantasy world. Each card represents a character within this world, creating a narrative-driven tarot experience where the 200+ page guidebook tells the stories behind every figure. The deck includes a bonus 22nd Major Arcana Artist's Card unique to each edition. The approach blends traditional tarot structure with original world-building, offering both standard tarot meanings and a layered narrative dimension.
Reading Experience
The deck has generated enthusiastic reception on social media, particularly TikTok, where unboxing videos and reviews have praised its unique modern aesthetic and premium production quality. Collectors appreciate the limited-edition approach with distinct colorways per edition. The character-driven world-building gives readings a storytelling quality that appeals to readers who enjoy narrative tarot. Community feedback highlights the deck's appeal to younger, contemporary audiences who may find traditional tarot imagery less engaging.
