Moon child tarot

Moon child tarot

The Moonchild Tarot was created by Canadian visual artist, writer, and designer Danielle Noel, based on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. It is indie-published through her company Starseed Designs Inc. and sold primarily through her official website (daniellenoel.art) and tarot retailers. The Moonchild Tarot is the companion to Noel's earlier Starchild Tarot — while the Starchild is described as "Superconscious, galactic and otherworldly," the Moonchild is "Subconscious and grounding," working with the transmutational power of the Moon. The deck contains 79 cards plus 2 bonus cards (81 total) and comes with a substantial 279-page fully illustrated guidebook. A Shadow Work Edition has also been released.

Art Style & Visual Character

Noel's artwork consists of vivid digital collages with layered textures, rich symbology, and lush dreamscape imagery. The style blends photography, illustration, and symbolic overlays to create an immersive, sensory visual experience. Card backs are shimmering and printed on premium 400 GSM satin-matte finish card stock with matte gold edges and borderless card faces. The cards measure 5" x 3" — larger than standard tarot size. The overall aesthetic is ethereal, mystical, and deeply feminine, evoking moonlit rituals, subconscious exploration, and spiritual awakening.

Core Concept & Symbolism

The deck is designed to activate the calls of the Higher Self while tapping into the Akashic records of the soul. Its symbolism is rooted in lunar energy, subconscious exploration, and soulful introspection. The accompanying guidebook provides in-depth meanings for each card (upright and reversed), descriptions of the artwork explaining the artist's intent, tarot spreads, keywords, and helpful inquiry prompts. The deck maintains traditional tarot structure while infusing each archetype with cosmic and lunar symbolism, creating a bridge between classical tarot wisdom and new-age spiritual practice.

Reading Experience

Christiana Gaudet's review calls the Moonchild Tarot "a fine first deck for a beginner and a wonderful addition to any collection," praising the extensive guidebook and production quality. The Spirit Guides review highlights the deck's beauty and depth. The primary criticism is that the cards are large and can be difficult to shuffle for those with smaller hands. The premium production quality (gold edges, heavy stock, comprehensive guidebook) justifies its higher price point ($65+). The deck has a strong following on Instagram (@moonchildtarot) and in the indie tarot community, appealing especially to those drawn to lunar spirituality and feminine mysticism.
