Prisma Visions tarot
The Prisma Visions Tarot was created in 2014 by impressionistic artist James R. Eads, following his earlier Light Visions Tarot. The deck was funded through a highly successful Kickstarter campaign, raising $79,206 from 1,185 backers. Now in its 7th printing, Prisma Visions is Eads' most revered deck and one of the most beloved indie tarot decks ever created. Each edition features a unique 79th card (the 7th edition includes "Prismatic Toad"). Eads has since expanded the Visions series to include Cosma Visions Oracle, Little Visions, and Mirra Visions lenticular decks. A 10th anniversary Illuminated Prisma Visions edition was also released.

The deck is rendered in Eads' unmistakable impressionistic, painterly style with radiant, layered imagery and luminous dreamlike quality. The defining visual feature is its panoramic design: each Minor Arcana suit's cards are borderless and can be lined up into one continuous panoramic image, creating a visual narrative that flows across the entire suit. Major Arcana cards are bordered. The color palette is rich and prismatic, with swirling brushwork reminiscent of Van Gogh filtered through a cosmic, modern sensibility. Card quality features a semi-glossed finish that complements the vibrant colors.
Core Concept & Symbolism
Rooted in the classic Rider-Waite-Smith structure, the deck reimagines traditional tarot through impressionistic brushwork and interconnected panoramic storytelling. The panoramic imagery aids in memorization by associating each card's individual meaning to the broader narrative of its suit — seeing where a card fits in the continuous image illuminates its role in the elemental story. This innovative approach transforms each reading into a contemplative visual journey through imagination and intuition, while maintaining the familiar RWS symbolic foundation.
Reading Experience
The deck has developed an iconic following within the modern tarot movement. Reviewers consistently praise the stunning artwork, with Spiral Nature Magazine noting "there is so much to see in these cards, so many symbols and so much depth." The panoramic feature makes it a favorite among beginners for learning suit narratives, while the depth of imagery satisfies experienced readers. The deck is part of the Visions series that has become a cornerstone of cinematic, art-forward indie tarot. Hermit's Mirror's deck interview highlights its communicative, thoughtful reading personality.
