The Tower
The Tower signals sudden upheaval that shakes your foundations and forces a reckoning with what you have built. It can reveal that protections or structures meant to keep you safe have become constricting or destructive, leading to necessary collapse. In its reversed aspect, it warns of self-imposed isolation—staying behind walls that keep out both danger and renewal, shutting away light and possibility. The card urges confrontation of change and embracing of renewal, even when a fresh start feels threatening.
Keywords
Upright
The Tower bodes upheaval, moments where you are shaken to your very core and can feel your foundations crumbling beneath you. You may wonder who you have become. That which you have built to protect yourself may be the very thing that ultimately crushes you. In the broadest sense, a revolt has occurred, and old institutions can no longer stand.
Reverse
The walls you have built remain strong, but you never leave them. In an effort to hide from the wind and cold, you have also shut away the sun and stars. You resist change because it may entail starting over. To your mind, a fresh start is more of a threat than a new opportunity.
Visual Description
A tall, multi-story tower stands atop a rocky purple peak, its upper portion framed by stylized flames. A jagged bolt of lightning or energy arcs from a large red sun toward the tower and a small crown is shown tumbling away from the impact. Pink rectangular fragments and ribbons of red fall down the slope as if debris or shattered blocks. The card shows the roman numeral XVI at the top and the title "the tower" printed at the bottom; the palette is dominated by reds, purples, yellows and pinks.
