Description of the Image
A dragon tightly coils around its hard-earned hoard. It has spent numerous long human lifetimes amassing such a vast treasure. No one should touch it; no one should steal this treasure! 'Mine!' it hisses at its tiny brethren, who slowly gather around to take a look. Salamanders and lizards scatter quickly to avoid its possessive wrath. 'My gold!' it declares. The dragon knows that chameleons are watching from above with covetous eyes. It knows they are waiting for a moment of weakness to sneak in and seize its gold. Even the slightest touch of the wind feels like a secretive theft attempt, causing it to coil around itself tighter and tighter, from nose to tail, in innumerable rings. The salamanders dart away, leaving it alone with itself. The shiny scales blend into the gold it sprawls upon, creating an indistinguishable gleam, a delightful and comforting glow that never dims or changes.
Meaning
The 4 of Pentacles embodies the spirit of possessiveness, of someone who always wants to control. As a result, they live within self-imposed constraints, in a cage of their own making, and are highly resistant to any change. They are hindered by their own weaknesses, bound by the very weaknesses they deny. This figure is a miserly and unhappy being, financially stable yet spiritually blocked by their preoccupation with material status. Letting go of this selfishness can bring more happiness than the hoarding has ever provided.
