The second Aett begins with a shift of energy with Hagalaz ('Hag-all-az') (or Haal). Hagalaz holds the power that is beyond the human’s ability to harness. The nature of Hagalaz is impersonal and it represents the destructive forces of nature. This is the rune of past patterns, objective confrontation and controlled crises.

Hail comes as a shock, but the ancients described hail as grain. Hail melts into ice and then into water, providing for the earth to grow seeds. Spiritual awakening comes very often from crisis and radical change. It’s a destruction and a transformation that leads to rebirth.

Nine is the number of completion of a perfect pattern. Thus, Hagalaz urges you to seek shelter, raise your defenses for protection and have patience as the storm will eventually pass. Its shape symbolizes the sky and the earth united by a violent hailstone rain.

Hagalaz is linked with past lives and past patterns, highlighting suppressed inner conflicts. It is the right time for inner exploration and letting go of the past.

A crisis, a loss of tribulation. Hagalaz reminds us to stay kind and appreciate what we have. Nature corrects the imbalance and you are vulnerable to correction.

Uninspired risk and loss. Hard recover to losses, delays. Change is needed to survive.

A block in the relationship that may lead to massive change. Things are shifting, things you cannot control, or will your partner into. Secrecy and alienation. The outcomes of hail are freedom, liberation and a different way to look at the world.

Hagalaz foretells sickness and suffering, but also urges us to take care of ourselves in order to be stronger.

Hagalaz is a reminder that there are things that we cannot control. Just like nature happens, things will happen outside of you, affecting you most of the times unavoidable.

You will be able to move forward by the destruction of emotional blockage and ties to the past. Disappointment that you are not on the right path may be present. Hagalaz is a reminder that this disappointment is a necessary step for achieving change and rebirth to move on.

Hagalaz doesn’t have a reverse position.

Hagalaz signifies the general distractive nature and depending on the runes they will be extracted with, will give a more enlightening meaning. In general, Hagalaz foretells a period of crisis, radical change and unavoidable unpleasantness. This suffering will have a positive outcome however because from it you will experience enlightenment and transformation.
