Solitude, independence, isolation

Find peace in solitude and independence.

Island stands alone in the wide, wide sea. Often uninhabited and undisturbed by human life, Island is an unspoilt piece of isolated land. She is self-sustaining; a beacon of independence and resourcefulness. She may be covered with trees or rocky and bare. She could be a volcano or a tropical paradise. No matter what makes up Island, she doesn't need anything more to exist. Quite the contrary: without other land mass around, she is unaffected by what is going on elsewhere. Island's song is one of solitude – she is alone, yet she’s not lonely.

The message imparted to you from Island is that you need to find peace in solitude. Perhaps you are too reliant on others, avoid spending time alone, or distract yourself from being alone with yourself. This card asks you to reacquaint yourself with you, to spend time alone and find more independence. It is a reminder to stop looking over your neighbour’s fence and comparing yourself with others. The mindset that the grass is always greener will not serve you well and can leave you feeling unsatisfied and ungrateful. Island also asks you to consider how reliant you are on material possessions and how caught up you are in the consumerist nature of the modern world. It encourages you to declutter your life, literally and metaphorically.
